I finished my bachelor’s degree. It was not easy.

As I am finishing my last week as an undergraduate student at the wonderful North Carolina Central University, I want to take some moments to reflect over my past two years in college. I have had the opportunity to be part of the Cheatham-White Scholars program, a supportive department of Psychology, and the Catholic ministry on campus. Each of these opportunities have had their distinct advantages and demands. Being part of the Cheatham White program pushed me to be the best student I could be, even when it meant spending nights studying or completing a certain assignment. I did not realize the blessing that it meant not having to pay for college until my grades dropped in the first semester. I understood that I was not taking advantage of the grace. I began a trajectory to change my schedule and ensure I spent more time doing my school work. I even had assistance from a Academic Coach to support me along the way (Dr. Lassiter). With the Psychology department, I was made part of research opportunities and also of recommendation letters for even more research opportunities. Their support facilitated being accepted by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University into their Master of Science program in Health Psychology. Lastly, being part of the Catholic ministry demonstrated I have a lot of work to do when it comes to leadership. I could have done more to expand the reach of our organization. I did not consistently get out of my comfort zone to reach other souls. I learned that I will be called to difficult tasks, but there will always be someone there to help me carry my cross along my own Calvary.
